About Anita
Anita Pierce was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma, the fourth child of eleven(!) children.
At ten years old, her family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas.
After high school she moved to Houston, Texas, where her interest in photography began.
Several photography classes and lots of practice began to pay off; Anita started getting calls for freelance photography work, and landed a photo job at Houston Club & Restaurant magazine. Houston is also where she met her husband, and had her two children.
1994 brought Anita and her family to the Kansas City area. Photography work continued, along with other artistic endeavors, such as candle-making, quilt-making, and woodworking.
In 2007, Anita joined the Ottawa Art Guild, based in Ottawa, Kansas. With help and encouragement from the guild members, she began her newest artistic adventure, painting. Anita also received valuable assistance, tips and critiques via email and phone from her commercially successful sister/painter, Debbie Stevens.
Regarding her photography and painting style, Anita replies: “I usually choose subjects which I find interesting either by shape or color. My early photos were mostly portraits: bands, models, and actors. These days, my passion is wildlife and nature photography. My paintings reflect that passion. I continue to experiment with different mediums, but for now, I find myself really enjoying watercolors.”
